Design Process Of Cup Project

Problem/Idea: To use the knowledge gained about the lathe and turning techniques to create a more useful object.

Research: Several woodworking books were used in order to determine what would be the most sensible thing to turn on the lathe.

Possible Solutions: Create a goblet that can be used in everyday life and is durable enough to resist chips, scratches and minor damage.

Best Solution: See above

Prototype: A small goblet was made out of pine that chipped easily and broke without much effort.

Test: The pine goblet was too easily broken and proved unable to meet the criteria for the cup.

Communication: The results were relayed to my teacher for acknowledgement that the project had been completed.

Redesign: A second cup was made from mahogany to insure that the cup would not break easily and was polished to become the final product of the project.
